Nada Nashashibi is a British Palestinian contemporary artist. Nada was born in Jerusalem in 1983. She moved to Cyprus when she was 18 to study Graphic Communications and Art at the International College of Cyprus. She was inspired by both her parents who were filling their spare time in painting. Later on Nada moved to London to continue her studies and graduated with an honours degree in Graphic Communications at the School of Art and Design at Wolverhampton University in 2005. Since then, Nada has been pro-active in the arts both in London and abroad gaining a lot of varied experience which informs her work.
Nada's work is full of colour and depth. She believes deeply in peace, hope and love. She tries to convey her feelings and emotions through her artwork.
She likes to express her artwork using two and three dimensional materials and different mediums. She uses her hands and fingers as tools to produce different textures and effects. One of her recent specialty is working with resin. Nada either mixes and makes her own colours by using alcohol inks to creates her artwork. Or covers her textured paintings with resin to bring it alive using her hands to keep the amazing 3D effect.
Nada's latest artwork is influenced by space, mysterious galaxies, black holes, stars and oceans. Her own universe gives her freedom and endless joy. Oceans and space are the only places that can set her mind and spirit free. She remembers relaxing on the beach as a child hearing and watching the waves come ashore. She would wonder what was out beyond these waves. What was down there below the surface. Nada creates her own jellyfish creatures and unknown sea inhabitants from her own imagination.
Some of Nada's artwork is influenced by the Palestinian political situation she passed through her childhood. Growing up in Jerusalem in the 80s and 90s during the two Intifadas and first Gulf war was a disturbing place to live in. She escaped the political turmoil by watching the sky and going to the Mediterranean sea. Nada spent her weekends with her family at a small Palestinian city called Jericho. The sky was always a calm place to escape into. Witnessing shooting stars was one of her favourite things to do.
Nada continues to create these beautiful magical galaxies for others to enjoy...
